There was a time during my high school days when I had for some reason lost interest in nearly all games: Soccer, Chess, StarCraft, League of Legends, Xbox…
Nintendo is still alive??
The craze for me was over, and the wash of boredom ensued. Today, I come to realize what I perhaps subconsciously noticed then: amongst the tactical chaos and mechanical noise, everything is strategically simple with a laid out goal.
I don’t mean to imply that scoring, checkmating, or destroying your opponent’s base is in anyway simple – While execution may be a matter of extremely precise art, the actual direction and underlying motivations are what I’m more interested in.
And so here are the few lessons learned…
- Be reflective, and have a goal
That’s really all there is to it; “it” being everything: school, work, studying, waking up and eating cereal in the morning. It’s actually quite simple, and lot’s of people forget.
- When it comes to making decisions, make them quickly and move on
This doesn’t mean be reckless, but maximize your doing time and minimize your sitting-around-and-twiddling-your-thumbs time
- Elimination is easier than lucky discovery
It’s much easier to know what you don’t like to do than to know precisely, and exactly the opposite.
- Lastly, you create your own luck
